VOLUNTARY WATER RESTRICTIONS STLL IN EFFECT Carroll, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Howard and Harford Counties Advised Limiting Non-Essential Water Use
Westminster, MD, Monday, September 14, 2026 – Carroll County and most of Central Maryland continue to experience drier-than-normal conditions. The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) has affirmed the region is currently in a Drought Warning Stage, one step below Drought Emergency.
The City of Baltimore reminds residents that the area is still experiencing drought conditions and reservoirs remain strained. Voluntary water restrictions are strongly urged across the region due to low water levels in regional reservoirs including Liberty Reservoir. The Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) continues to monitor rainfall, stream flows, reservoir levels and water demand.
The Freedom Area of Carroll County, including the town of Sykesville, relies on Liberty Reservoir for its drinking water and is therefore part of the affected regions. Carroll County officials will continue to collaborate with regional partners and monitor water supply conditions.
Recommended Water Conservation Measures
Postpone lawn and garden watering
Avoid car, boat, or equipment washing
Refrain from washing outdoor surfaces like sidewalks and driveways
Repair or replace leaking faucets, hoses, and sprinklers
Run only full loads in dishwashers and washing machines
Turn off taps while brushing teeth or shaving
Leaks are one of the largest sources of water waste. Carroll County and surrounding jurisdictions are committed to doing their part by repairing watermain breaks and system leaks promptly. Residents are encouraged to help by promptly reporting any signs of running water that may indicate a leak or watermain break.
